Dramatic Eye Makeup

All forms of dramatic eye makeup have one purpose at the end of the day, and that is to highlight ones eyes. There are many different styles of make up, depending on what the occasion it is or simply what your taste may be. It can enhance ones look for a variety of occasions. Generally dramatic eye makeup is worn for night time occasions because it does a better job of highlighting the eyes in the evening, and you can go to places where you can be funky and fun at the same time. That is why it is generally not applied for daytime functions like weddings and other classy functions.

Like many things in life practice makes perfect so its better to do some practice runs surrounded by only your friends before going out with your new “dramatic eye makeup look”. One may see get fooled by looking at pictures in magazines with models adorned with perfect eye make up, but you must remember that such pictures are generally touched up in the studio so do not get discouraged if your make up is not magazine quality “perfection”. But with the right tools and practice and learning about “shades” and “contrasts”  you can learn to apply dramatic eye makeup to look very good.

As it was said earlier the reason for dramatic eye makeup is to accentuate the eyes. For this the help of the eyelashes and eye brows are used. It’s generally a combination of make up techniques involving both these and the eyes that gives the eyes a big or dramatic look. For that one has to learn about different shades of color, the correct color for your eyes, and how to manipulate the shape of your eye brows. To give a few basic examples, for lighter colored eyes such as blue eyes darker shades are used and for dark eyes deeper shades of brown or blue, gold or vanilla can be used. During the 1960’s eyeliner was used to give that dramatic eye look, although still popular these days, the “smoky” eye look is another popular style used these days. Nowadays there are all sorts of techniques that have been perfected including methods for Asian eyes.

In the old days dramatic eye makeup just meant putting on the basic eye make up but with a heavier dose. Of course it also helped that batting of eyelids was considered fashionable and sexy. I this day and age if one were to do that people would most likely think that your eyes had some sort of problem and that you needed eye drops or a new set of contact lenses. Dramatic eye makeup is also used as a theme make up like the gothic look or some types of costume party. So what we can sum up from all this is that dramatic eye makeup is usually something that is done in the evenings or for special occasions and needs to be done skillfully with care so that one does not end up looking like a clown or some sort of bizarre character.
